Seasons

on March 20, 2022

So long Winter! Hello Spring! It didn’t feel very Spring like today. None the less, according to the calendar it’s officially Spring and though the weather didn’t cooperate, the handoff still took place.

Spring is an interesting season. Dead things seem to wake from their winter slumber overnight. Colorful flowers bloom, leaves on the trees blossom and birds can be heard chirping their beautiful songs.

Then my least favorite thing happens. Bugs, snakes, and spiders. I know they have their place in the world, but I could go the rest of my life without them, thank you very much.

Before we know it, Summer will be here. Let’s not rush this season though. Have you noticed every year the seasons come faster and faster? I don’t believe the seasonal lengths change much. I think its due to constant push to keep consumers buying. We don’t get to fully enjoy one holiday before they’re pushing the next one on us.

The older I get, the more I appreciate the pause.

In addition to this being the first day of Spring, it’s my birthday. I don’t feel as old as what the years say I am. Growing old has become taboo in this world of ours. I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of being targeted about my appearance.

Everywhere I look there’s an ad for how to minimize wrinkles and how to lose weight. Let’s add the latest exercise and diet craze to the mix. You can’t escape the war on how to fix you. The ads use words like, ”hurry,” ”buy now,” ”don’t delay,” and ”last chance.” It’s the perfect fear tactic.

They’re no different than the stores rushing into the next season. When does it stop so we can enjoy the season of life we’re in?

I guess the answer lies within us. Truly we’re the only ones who can say when enough is enough.

I don’t even want to think of how many years I’ve wasted thinking about the way I look. More worrisome is the years I’ve wasted wondering about how others think about the way I look. As if my very existence depended upon someone else’s approval.

I wish I could go back and tell my younger self that no amount of doing something for someone to change my appearance would be enough. You give in once, they always ask for more. Before you know it, you’re looking in a mirror at someone you no longer recognize.

Whatever season you’re in, know that if you’re acceptable to you, thats ok. If you’re seeking to make a change, who are you doing it for? More importantly what makes the person(s) you’re trying to change for worth it?

At the end of the day, you’ll still be stuck with you. No matter who else is around, you’re still there. Just make sure whatever change you make is something you want/need over someone inflicting their will on you. Obviously, the choice is yours.

I once considered getting breast implants. I went to the doctors with my then husband. We listened to all the information and were told to think on it. He didn’t need to think on it. He wanted them. But, he wasn’t the one who would need the surgery.

Next thing I knew, I was flipping through the pages of multiple playboy magazines trying to find the perfect pair to emulate. Those magazines didn’t belong to me. That’s the problem when your significant other is always looking porn. You eventually become less than the unrealistic, airbrushed models.

I didn’t get the surgery. My then husband is now my ex. Getting that surgery wouldn’t have stopped the inevitable. But, I would’ve been stuck with implants I never wanted. There’s nothing wrong with getting implants, IF it’s what YOU want.

Please understand the implants were a suggestion to my complaints over my displeasure in the shape of my breasts. I was unhappy with their appearance. At the end of the day, I’m the one who lives with the consequences of my choices. Unfortunately, I’ve allowed a lot of misguided influence to assist in my decision making.

Weighing ALL the costs of any decision is what growing older has taught me. Running haphazardly into what feels good in the moment has cost me greatly in my life and those affected by those impulsive decisions.

Peer pressure of any kind is real and something we all fall prey to at all ages in all seasons of our lives. It’s imperative you know who you are. When you don’t, someone is more than willing to let you know who they think you are. Don’t you put on what they say. They don’t know you. If they did, they wouldn’t push you into being something you’re not.

Red flags are not to be ignored. Those gut instincts (as some like to call them) are there for a reason. Blowing them off can change the trajectory of your life. Question is, are you prepared for the fall out? Most likely not. It’s why the warning signal was going off in your head in the first place.

Bottom line, be true to who you are. Nobody will be around you as much as you’ll be around yourself, season after season.

Oh, and the Bible has something to say about the seasons of our life. You can find it in Ecclesiastes 3, “A Time for Everything.” Seriously, you should read it! You didn’t think I’d forget to include something from the best life altering Truth did you? Nope. Because it’s not about me. It ALL points back to my God!

Be blessed my friends!

This post DID take a turn I did not expect either! Haha talking about your breast shape in a blog called Seasons. So fitting. We have nature’s seasons and then the seasons of our lives. Love how you can incorporate God’s word into everything. Yup, everything. His Truth is cool like that!! Loved!
